Call for Photographers

With spring in the air, photographers are capturing the beauty of the changing seasons, and residents of the Lumby Valley, Lavington, and Cherryville are invited to submit entries in the 2021 Monashee Arts Council Photography Contest.

There are three age categories: 14 years and under, 15-24 years, and adult.  Each entrant is allowed up to three, 8×10 photos with a $2 fee for each entry. There are prizes for each category and a People’s Choice award selected by visitors to the Village Gallery Photography Show in April.

“This photography contest replaces the one MAC normally conducts in June to coincide with Lumby Days.  However this year, due to the pandemic and the cancellation of Lumby Days, the Monashee Arts Council decided to host the annual contest along with a photography show for the month of April 2021 in the Village Gallery,” says organizer and MAC member Nina Westaway.

Entry forms are available at the Village Gallery.  Deadline for entries is Tuesday, March 30 at 3 pm.  Local photographers Bruce Borrowman and Dale Eurich as well as youth juror Mikayla Appleby will assist judging.

For display purposes, photographs must be backed with foam board or cardboard.  A limited supply of backing paper and 2-sided tape are available at no cost through the Village Gallery while supplies last.

The Monashee Arts Council and Village Gallery are open Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm at 1975 Vernon Street (Highway 6) Lumby. Entry forms are available at the office and on the website: monasheeartscouncil.com.

The photography contest and show has been made possible by volunteers of the Monashee Arts Council and funding through White Valley Parks Recreation and Culture and a resiliency grant from the BC Arts Council which makes community inclusion in the arts possible.
