Robin LeDrew Accepted into the Federation of Canadian Artists

Everyone at the Monashee Arts Council is extremely proud to announce that one of our members, Robin LeDrew, has been accepted into the Federation of Canadian Artists.  The FCA was founded in 1941 by a group of Canadian artists and continues to operate with members throughout the world and Chapters in Western Canada.  The FCA’s focus is to raise artistic standards by encouraging participants to continue to strive for greater heights of knowledge and achievement, partly by offering what is understood to be the first artists-sponsored gallery in Canada.  To be accepted into the Federation of Canadian Artists, individual artists must submit an application.  Once accepted they pay membership dues and can be juried to the status of Full Active Member.  The FCA operates like a guild where members band together to improve their skills and learn from each other.

Robin admits that applying to the FCA was a step outside of her comfort zone.  Being a self-taught artist, she initially felt a little intimidated by the prospect.  She has always practiced and developed her skills in a “learn as you go” manner which she conveys to others who seek out her expertise and advice.  However, Robin found the jurying process to be very compassionate and quickly realized her feelings were unfounded.

Robin has been a visible and constant artistic presence in our community for many years.  She joined the Monashee Arts Council very shortly after it was founded and has held several directors’ positions with MAC over the years.  She is a founding member of The Village Gallery which is an artists’ co-operative operating in downtown Lumby and which is celebrating its third year in business.  Robin has participated in many community art events such as Lumby Days, and the Lumby Public Market and continues to offer both private and group art classes.

Robin is very excited to be able to add her membership with the Federation of Canadian Artists to the other groups she’s belonged to on her journey as an artist.  These groups include Gallery Vertigo, the Vernon Art Gallery, and the Okanagan Artists of Canada.  She has always been very passionate about making art in the community more visible and in becoming more visible as an individual artist herself.

In addition to her continuing work with The Village Gallery in Lumby which has been featuring Artists of the Month exhibits and facilitating art classes in our region, Robin is currently preparing her first entry into a FCA show, which will take place in Kamloops.  She will have to be juried into the exhibition as will all other artists.  As a member of the FCA, once Robin has been juried into several shows she can apply to be a Signature Artist.  The process of being juried into these members-only exhibitions is designed to facilitate the evolution of one’s progress in the guild as an artist.  Robin relishes the prospect of embarking on this new journey.

Congratulations from us all!
