The Monashee Arts Council has entered into an agreement with the Okanagan Regional Library (Lumby) to offer a program to raise the awareness in the community of our local artists.  This project will provide a venue for local artists to showcase their work in the Lumby Branch, as well as take part in evening/weekend events during which the public can meet the artists to discuss their pieces.

The details of the initiative are as follows:

  • The library will display items from one local artist each month.  Monashee Arts Council will organize which artist is featured.

  • Due to space limitations artwork must be no larger than 1m in length and 1m in height.

  • If an item is of unusual size or has special display requirements, then the Community Librarian must give approval before drop-off.   Pieces will be accommodated to the best of the Library’s ability.

  • A business card indicating price may be displayed with the artwork.

  • The ORL reserves the right to deny submission for any reason including; but not limited to: items that are too large, may pose as a safety risk, or does not fit within the ORL’s policy, procedures, or values.

  • On the last Saturday of each display month, from noon until 1pm, the featured artist, if interested, will be provided a table/space in which to meet with the public.  The Community Librarian cannot assist too much with this informal session, as the business of running the Library will take precedence.

  • The Library will host a  biannual “Meet the Artist” evening event  in which all artists that have had their work displayed  are invited to bring some of their work, meet the public, answer questions, and sell their pieces.  This event will run from 6-8pm on a Thursday most convenient to the Library.  The Library normally closes at 7, but would remain open until 8.  Artists will be invited to market their items after the 7pm closure.

  • Refreshments could be provided at the “Meet the Artist” evening.  Alcoholic beverages are not allowed.

  • All artists must complete and submit an ORL Exhibit Agreement form.

We are currently looking for artists to participate for 2017.  Artists are required to be Monashee Arts Council members (membership $15/year), If you are interested in taking part in this joint venture between MAC and the ORL, please contact me at the office by phone 778-473-3029 or by email monasheeartscouncil@gmail.com
